Metro tiles
Metro or facet tiles?
At the beginning of the 19th century, stations of the Paris “Métropolitain” were equipped with the first facet tiles, hence the general term “metro tiles”. Subsequently, underground stations all over the world were also equipped with facet tiles. This gave rise to other names for these tiles, such as Tube tiles or Subway tiles. A special characteristic is their three-dimensional appearance due to the facet cut. This also served to reflect and evenly distribute light and sound in the stations.
That certain polish
For some time now, metro tiles have found their way into the above-ground world, adorning building facades and walls in restaurants and living spaces.
Classically laid in a half-bond with the Parisian format (7.5 x 15 cm), facet tiles create the balancing act of calming and special wall design. They literally add a certain polish to any room.
FACETTENFLIESEN VON GOLEM
The standard format is 7.5 cm x 15 cm. The thickness of the tile is 0.8 cm in the middle and 0.4 cm at the edge. We can produce facet tiles in all glazes of our single-colour wall tiles.
Facet tiles are not limited to the half format. We also offer them in square format (15 x15 cm). These full-format facet tiles with their robust appearance are mostly found in house entrances or factory buildings.

Backsplash
Tiles with facets are usually laid in a half bond. For elegant installation, we also offer quarter formats with a facet. This allows for a clean finish at the edges of the tile backsplash.
Corner situation
The guiding principle is: “Facet should meet facet”.
The sides towards the corner should be uniformly finished with facets, as the height of the ground bevel is lower than the central part of the tile. Cutting facet tiles is therefore not recommended.
